One of the Architectural Marvels of the most sought after City of Gujarat, Ahmedabad is Amdavad ni Gufa. It is also called Hussain-Doshi Gufa. It is an underground art gallery that depicts the works of the famous Indian painter Maqbool Fida Husain and is located on the campus of the Centre for Environmental Planning & Technology in AhmedabadDesigned by the famous architect Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi and depicts the artworks of M.F. Hussain, the art gallery has been named after the two eminent personalities, Hussain and Doshi.

Yet the gallery is more popularly known as Amdavad ni Gufa, where Gufa means Cave as the structure of the place resembles a cave. This structure has been constructed using simple hand tools and that too by unskilled workers mostly the tribes of that place.

Father of Indian Space Program

 


The famous physicist, Vikram Sarabhai was an Indian scientist. His efforts helped to establish the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). He is also called the ‘Father of Indian space program’. Born on August 12, 1919, Vikram Sarabhai’s parents were Ambalal Sarabhai and Sarla Devi. Vikram Sarabhai has two children; son Kartikeya and daughter Mallika.

In 1966 he founded a Community Science Centre at Ahmedabad. This is now called Vikram A. Sarabhai Community Science Centre. He also established the Operations Research Group (ORG), the first market research organization in the country. He also established Nehru Foundation for Development in Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad ((IIMA), Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) in Jaduguda, Jharkhand, Faster Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) in Kalpakkam, and Variable Energy Cyclotron Project in Calcutta.

Jama Masjid History in Ahmedabad

 


Source: holidifycom Jama Masjid also is known as Jami or Jumma Mosque which literally means Friday Mosque is the grandest mosque of Ahmedabad. It was built in 1424 during the reign of Emperor Sultan Ahmed Shah I. To the west of the mosque are the tombs of Ahmed Shah I, his son and his grandson followed by the graves of the queens of the king.

Inside the wondrous mosque, the prayer room is covered by four domes. It is built in the Indo-Islamic style of architecture. The mosque contains many features like domes are carved like lotus flowers similar to those of the domes of Jain temples. Whereas, some of the pillars have hanging bells that often hang in Hindu temples.

The wide open courtyard, floored with white marble, is surrounded by a row of pillars painted with huge Arabic calligraphy and has a tank for ritual cleansings in the center. The main prayer hall, called Qibla, has over 260 columns supporting the roof. The Qibla is a wired network of pierced stone screens placed between the two pillars supporting the roof.

Kaba Gandhi No Delo History in Rajkot

 


Kaba Gandhi No Delo, which literally means “Kaba Gandhi’s house”, is situated in Rajkot. Rajkot is the place where the father of India, Mahatma Gandhi resided during his stay in Rajkot in the early years of his life. It has now been converted into a museum called “Gandhi Smriti”.

Mahatma Gandhi’s father, Karamchand Gandhi was known as Kaba Gandhi. The name of the house has been derived from Gandhiji’s father’s name. In Gujarati, the words Kaba Gandhi No Delo means ‘Kaba Gandhi’s residence’.

This is the house where Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s father, Karamchand UttamChand Gandhi (Kaba Gandhi) resided at Rajkot, serving as Diwan (Prime Minister) to the King. M K Gandhi himself spent a few years of his early life here from 1881 to 1887. It is a typical Saurashtra dela type house with a central approach from an arched gateway. It was built in 1880-81 A.D. and today it depicts an interesting photo essay of Mahatma Gandhi’s life.

Kaba Gandhi No Delo, Gujarat has been built following the old and customary styles of building houses and monuments in Gujarat State.

Present Day of the Place

Kaba Gandhi No Delo, is now a permanent exhibition. The exhibition showcases and houses the Gandhi Smriti in Rajkot. Kaba Gandhi No Delo is situated on Ghee Kanta Road at Rajkot. Rajkot was the formerly and initially the capital of the princely state of Saurashtra, which is in Gujarat.

It has now been converted into a memorial called “Gandhi Smriti”. The museum displays and consists of photographs, objects and the belongings of the great Indian leader and Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. A Non-Government Organization (NGO) runs classes in sewing and embroidery for young girls within the premises.

Timings: The place is open for general public Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm and again in the afternoon from 3 pm to 5 pm.

It is a place to visit when you’re traveling to Rajkot, to go back to the nostalgic times of the great leader of India, Mahatma Gandhi.

The Champaner Pavagadh Archaeological Park-Vadodara includes an ancient fortress, a palace, plenty of military structures and buildings, and water mechanism. These sites together once formed the capital region of the empire of Mahmud Begda.

The restoration of the capital region was started in 1484 AD, on the foothills of Pavagadh. The restoration took 23 years to complete. Later, Mahmud Begda moved his capital from Ahmadabad to Pavagadh.
